Curing Infertility

The reasons men and women become infertile are many. One needs treatment to overcome this problem. Infertility in women may be caused by endometriosis, insufficient ovaries, improper ovulation and low progesterone levels. In men this may be caused by low sperm count and motility, STD, injury or chronic diseases, obstruction of the reproductive tract and ageing.

Other than ageing and chronic diseases, most of these infertility causes can be treated by medication. However, these are quite expensive and have damaging side effects, which would require additional treatment. Among the better known conventional treatment for infertility are IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection). Here the eggs are removed from the ovary, artificially fused with the sperm in a laboratory and then transferred to the womb. This is a hormonally controlled ovulation progression and used when all other methods fail. In the natural process only the stronger sperm will successfully fuse with the ova, while the others get discharged. In the artificial process it is the embryologist who decides which sperm and egg are to be picked for fertilization. The danger here is, he may not pick up the strongest sperm and egg and this may result in genetic disorders. There are some other techniques that use a holistic method to treat the problems of secondary infertility. These are gaining wide acceptance by patients since they have, practically, no side effects.

Auricular, or simply known as ear acupuncture, is found to be very effective in treating cases of infertility in women due to ovarian malfunction. In this acupuncture method, the brain is found to transfer the hormonal signal more effectively to the ovary. This is borne out by women who have received this treatment for about 30 times in a 3-month period as against those women who underwent conventional hormonal therapy. The former had no side effects unlike the latter.

In the non-conventional alternative method, great emphasis is placed on diet and life style changes. They do not permit a regular consumption of products that contain caffeine. Coffee, chocolate, cocoa, green tea (with caffeine content) and black tea are blacklisted. So are colored soft drinks that contain substances that affect conception. According to one study, one and a half cup of coffee is enough to delay a woman from conceiving. NO COFFEE for infertility.

Fish that’s contaminated with PCB (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) is also reported to inhibit pregnancy. One study on women subjects, who had more than one meal that had PCB contaminated fish from Lake Ontario, found their ability to procreate had diminished in just a month.

Chinese medicines, acupuncture and certainly, the holistic treatment have provided the best results. The holistic method gets to the root of the cause first and only then prescribes the physical, spiritual and emotional treatment. Whereas the conventional method concentrates on investigating the organs to provide remedy for the problem and may not correctly identify and eliminate the cause. Besides, it also has side effects. The holistic method prescribes a natural remedy and a correct lifestyle to correct infertility after determining the real cause.
